Qu'est ce que le bogolan ?
Le bogolan est un tissu malien teint suivant une technique utilisée au Mali, au Burkina Faso, en Guinée, en Côte d'Ivoire et au Sénégal et composé d’une toile plus ou moins épaisse en coton, filée et tissée 100% à la mai, et de motif teints avec de la boue fermentée et autres colorants organiques. La technique de teinture est 100 % organique, libre de toute sorte de produits chimiques nocifs.
Le mot bogolan, de la langue bambara (la langue la plus utilisée au Mali), vient des mots bɔgɔ la terre, et lan, suffixe bambara sans équivalent en français signifiant « issu de ». Il désigne à la fois le tissu et un style particulier de teinture.
Les artisans dessinent des symboles sur ces tissus pour raconter des histoires traditionnelles des peuples de la région.
Utilisé autrefois par les guerriers et les chasseurs pour se camoufler, le tissu Bogolan est utilisé aujourd'hui dans le monde entier pour illustrer son attachement à la culture africaine.
