A l’origine, la coiffe Aka encore appelé juju hat est un chapeau en plumes, porté privilégiement par les chefs, les officiers de haut rang ainsi que les danseurs lors de certaines cérémonies traditionnelles au sein des chefferies des ethnies bamiléké, Fon et Bamoun de l’Ouest Cameroun. Ces coiffes de rituel symbolisent la prospérité et la richesse. Les Fon sont les seuls qui possèdent le plus grand, pouvant mesurer jusqu'à 2 mètres de diamètre et ils le portent accompagné de masques d’éléphant pendant les cérémonies funéraires ou lors de leurs réunions.
Cette coiffe composée de plumes (de poule, perroquet, perdrix, pintade) naturelles ou colorées est cousue sur une base en raphia, recouverte de tissu. Elle se replie pour pouvoir être rangée quand elle n’est pas utilisée.
